Quebec government engineers announce an indefinite general strike starting November 14.

This will be their third strike in seven years.

The Professional Association of Government Engineers of Quebec (APIGQ) will launch an indefinite general strike starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2024.

APIGQ members expressed themselves in favor of the general strike in a proportion of 88%, with a participation rate of 85.5%.

“It is regrettable that we have to take advantage of a strike mandate at this stage. With this strike mandate, we hope that the negotiations can now progress constructively and with a minimum of respect,” declared their president, Marc-André Martin, around ten days ago.

Government engineers exercised their right to strike in 2022, before signing an agreement in the fall. At the time of this signing, there were already only a few months left in this new 2020-2023 agreement. The negotiation lasted three years.

The 2022 strike had repercussions on civil engineering and road construction sites under the jurisdiction of the Quebec government. Government engineers must ensure the supervision of these sites.

A similar impact is expected.

Engineers also went on strike from May 24 to June 13, 2017.

APIGQ represents more than 2,000 engineers working within the Quebec government.
