(Ecofin Agency) – Angola Cables wants to expand its network to meet the growing demand for high-speed connectivity in Africa. The company established a subsidiary in Nigeria in 2022 to coordinate its activities in West Africa.

International ICT solutions and network services provider Angola Cables signed a partnership agreement with Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel) on Wednesday, May 8. The partnership should enable it to improve its connectivity services in Cameroon and West Africa.

As part of this collaboration, Angola Cables will leverage the additional connectivity provided by Camtel on the South Atlantic Inter Link (SAIL) submarine cable to strengthen redundancy, network resilience and quality of services (QoS) at nationally and internationally.

This partnership is part of Angola Cables’ expansion strategy in Africa. The company established a subsidiary in Nigeria, TelCables, in November 2022 to coordinate its activities in the West Africa region. The latter has set up a partnership program allowing telecom companies, ICT integrators, as well as Internet service providers to extend their influence in the region.

Once due diligence is completed, this partnership could transform internet connectivity and data transmission in West Africa. For users, this partnership will help secure connectivity and commerce, boost economies and grow businesses in the regionsaid Fernando Fernandes, Managing Director of TelCables Nigeria.

As a reminder, the West Africa region had an Internet penetration rate of 42% in 2022 according to DataReportal. The same Source indicates that Cameroon had 12.7 million Internet subscriptions at the start of 2024 for a penetration rate of 43.9%.
