(Ecofin Agency) – The Nigerian government aims to strengthen the technical capacities of young people to involve them in the ongoing digital revolution. The executive launched a training program in October 2023 which targets 3 million young people in three years.

Nokia Solutions and Networks Nigeria, the local subsidiary of Finnish technology company Nokia, is committed to training Nigerian youths in the latest 4G/5G radio and transmission technologies. The company signed a partnership agreement with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) earlier this week.

Training on 4G and 5G will take place in the NCC digital parks. Nokia will also establish an Entrepreneur Apprenticeship Program where it will provide high-quality vocational training to 200 Nigerian students selected from the six geopolitical zones of the country.

According to Aminu Maida, Managing Director of the NCC, this collaboration is part of the government’s vision to build the capacity and skills of Nigerians, equipping them with the contemporary skills and knowledge needed to adapt to the rapid evolution of the telecommunications industry. The executive launched a program called “3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT)” of the Federal Government in October 2023 which aims to train 3 million Nigerians in technical skills in three years.

This Nokia training program will help create additional jobs as demand for skilled labor continues to increase as digital transformation accelerates. In Kenya, telecommunications operator Safaricom signed a partnership agreement with the ICT Authority (ICTA) in April to train 10,000 fiber optic technicians over five years.
