The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) police officers and the CAQ government asked the Minister of Labor to appoint a special conciliator.

The Association of Provincial Police Officers of Quebec (APPQ) wants to speed up the negotiations which seem to have reached an impasse since the rejection last September of the agreement in principle which notably provided for a salary increase of 21% over five years.

“The conciliator will have the mandate to try to get the parties to agree on a new agreement in principle aimed at the renewal of the 2015-2022 employment contract” to the members of the APPQ for approval, according to a press release from the union.

Without an employment contract since March 2022, the approximately 5,700 SQ agents have stepped up pressure tactics to accelerate negotiations for the renewal of their collective agreement.

As a reminder, visibility actions with agents wearing red caps and colored pants took place at the beginning of April in several cities in the province, notably in Quebec, Rimouski and Montreal.
