be careful if you have scanned this QR code, many Belgians have already paid the price

If you own an electric car, it is no longer possible to pay at Energy Vision charging stations by scanning a QR Code. The reason ? Criminals had covered them with a sticker that redirected to a fake website that invited users to pay: “Customers lost up to 300 euros,” the company explains to HLN.

“We immediately filed a complaint,” adds Energy Vision, which operates charging stations in Brussels, in particular. In total, 80 terminals were affected by this scam: “We sent the addresses of the charging stations to the police and also contacted the FPS Economy. We hope that the police will be able to see on the cameras who put these stickers.”

A hundred victims

Fortunately, only 5% of customers pay via QR code, most use recharge cards. Around a hundred people were still victims of this scam.

Het Laatste Nieuws advises not to use QR codes as a payment method and to prefer alternatives such as recharge cards or mobile applications. Last March, we already warned you against qishing, which is increasingly used by cybercriminals.
