An Air France Boeing 787-900 connecting Paris to Seattle had to be diverted on Tuesday May 7 to the Canadian airport of Iqaluit.

New disappointment for Boeing. An Air France 787-900 aircraft which was operating the Paris-Seattle route was diverted this Tuesday, May 7 to a Canadian airport. The fault of “the appearance of a hot smell felt in the cabin”informs the French airline, which assures that it has not detected “no anomaly” for the moment.

“The plane landed normally”

“Air France confirms that the crew of flight AF338 on May 7, 2024, connecting Paris (CDG) to Seattle (SEA) in a Boeing 787-900 decided to divert to Iqaluit airport (YFB), Canada, continued the appearance of a hot smell felt in the cabin”she said in a statement.

“This decision was taken in accordance with the manufacturer’s procedures, the company’s instructions and in application of the precautionary principle. The plane landed normally in Iqaluit at 10:44 a.m. local time. Tuesday, she specifies, i.e. 4:44 p.m. Paris time. “The first checks by the Air France mechanic seconded to the site have not yet revealed any anomalies. These checks are continuing.”

In a press release relayed by Radio-Canada, Air France says that another aircraft was subsequently dispatched from Montreal to collect the 272 passengers and crew members stuck in Iqaluit, in northeastern Canada, and transport them to New York. The company promises rerouting to Seattle “as soon as possible”.

Serial incidents

Boeing is going through a difficult time after several incidents. Three of the four commercial aircraft models currently manufactured by the American group are officially the subject of an investigation by the American Civil Aviation Regulatory Agency (FAA), including the 787 “Dreamliner”.
