Checked, the price of the “Standard” subscription is now displayed at 20.90 francs compared to 18.90 francs previously, an increase of 11%. The “premium” subscription – the most popular according to Netflix – has also gone up from 24.90 to 27.90 francs, an increase of 12%. As for the price of the basic subscription (“Essential”), it will increase from 11.90 to 12.90 francs per month, an increase of 8%.

The comparison site Moneyland.ch had already made its calculations in mid-April. Since the launch of Netflix in September 2014, two subscriptions have become much more expensive, he noted. The “Standard” formula increased by 8 francs, an increase of 62%, while the price of the “Premium” formula increased by 10 francs, an increase of 56%. Only the basic subscription saw only a moderate increase of 1 franc.

And it’s probably not over: Netflix, which gained more than 13 million additional subscribers during the last quarter of 2023 and 9 million this first quarter, announced the color on April 18: “We will continue to increase the number of subscribers, but the overall growth of the company now has additional drivers, such as the optimization of subscription formulas, (…), advertising revenue and the adjustment of prices according to value added,” said Greg Peters, co-director general.

And no more way to “cheat” with your friends: a year ago, the American platform extended to Switzerland the application of strict criteria to unmask any illegal account sharing.

Netflix is ​​still the most expensive streaming platform in Switzerland, according to Moneyland. But others have also increased their prices in Switzerland in recent years. So Apple TV Plus is now 82% more expensive than its starting offer of 6 francs. And it’s even 81% more for Disney plus Premium and 54% for Amazon Prime.
