Toulouse. The city’s largest hypermarket has closed: here’s why

This is big news. The Galerie Espaces Fenouillet, near Toulouse, will welcome a brand new hypermarket in place of the Géant (Casino group). The commercial space will become Auchan from May 14, 2024, at 8:30 a.m..

A new brand

For the moment, consumers have no longer had a hypermarket since April 30. The former Giant is full “remodeling” to adorn themselves with the red colors of Auchan. It should reopen its doors next week, precisely “May 14,” assures Marie Vanoye, director of external communications for Auchan, contacted by Toulouse News.

“Ahead of the openings scheduled for mid-May, mid-June and mid-July, the stores will be closed for around two weeks, while the brand’s tools, processes and codes are put in place,” adds Auchan. Espace Fenouillet being part of the first wave.

What changes for consumers?

“I think this will be a nice surprise for customers in terms of prices,” assures Auchan. “It’s a more competitive offer than Casino.”

But it’s not the only one change for consumers :

“Customers will also find food professions: bakery, fishmonger, butcher.” All this in “a new environment”. During this period of work on the large food store, all of the shopping center’s shops and restaurants as well as the cinema remain open.

The teams taken over

“All the teams have been taken over,” Auchan wishes to emphasize. This change of brand is part of the takeover plan for Casino in France. Auchan therefore set out to conquer the South-West and South-East where it had little presence.

After Fenouillet, it is in Montaudran, south-east of Toulouse, where the brand will set up.

In Toulouse, Auchan is present through five supermarkets (Tournefeuille, Fombeauzard, Launaguet, Toulouse Charles-de-Fitte, and Borderouge), a Drive in Toulouse Ponts-Jumeaux and an Auchan Pedestrian in the Concorde district. It has operated the Balma-Gramont hypermarket since 1997.
