Xlinks First, the British company responsible for the electricity megaproject linking Morocco and the United Kingdom, announced the appointment of Samantha Harrison as operations director.

The decision was approved by the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACOBA).

Harrison has held several positions in the British government, including as an advisor at the Department of Health and Social Care and Acting Permanent Secretary at Downing Street. His new mission at Xlinks includes human resources management, security, corporate culture, as well as stakeholder relations. She also clarified that she will not have direct contact with the government to avoid any conflict of interest.

As a reminder, the project plans to supply almost 8% of the UK’s electricity demand from new solar and wind projects in Morocco (with a production capacity of 10.5 gigawatts). “Clean energy” which will be transported via submarine cables each 3,800 km long.

The project, which is estimated at nearly $27 billion, is expected to create 10,000 jobs in Morocco during construction, including 2,000 permanent ones.
