Hundreds of young people today live in acute precariousness, at the end of the lake. To help them, the Canton announced this week the launch of a pre-training scholarship pilot project. Aimed at 18-25 year olds who have dropped out of school, it aims to finance “remobilization measures”, an educational upgrade, as well as “personalized and intensive” support.

The measure is intended to be “an alternative to social assistance,” explained the State. “Receiving social assistance is sometimes difficult and can seriously jeopardize the chances of socio-professional integration.” This is why the authorities intend this scholarship in particular for people who are not registered with the General Hospice.

There is, however, a sine qua non condition: the beneficiaries of the project must meet the criteria for obtaining social assistance. Clearly, only the most vulnerable will have access to the pilot program. A single person, living with their parents and not having to pay rent, could then receive up to 1,055 francs per month to join the Young Adults in Training and Working (JAFA) program.
