The popular company Lululemon, known for its yoga clothing and accessories, would be the subject of an investigation by the Competition Bureau of Canada following a complaint from a pro-environment organization concerning “environmental declarations” of the company.

According to the organization Stand.earth, Lululemon allegedly engaged in false advertising in its “Be Planet” campaign by claiming that “[ses] products and [ses] actions prevent environmental damage and help restore a healthy planet.

“What we’ve really learned over the last two years is that this kind of image is nothing more than a facade,” said Rachel Kitchin, a member of Stand.earth, in an interview with GlobalNews.

In a response sent to the organization, the federal agency confirmed that it had opened an investigation following receipt of the complaint. “I would like to point out that the investigation seeks to determine the facts relating to the allegations that [Lululemon] contravened the Law by making false, misleading and/or unfounded statements,” was written in the said letter.

For the moment, there is nothing to confirm that the sports clothing company has committed a “reprehensible act”, underlined Marianne Blondin, spokesperson for the Competition Bureau, in a statement made to the QMI Agency.

An investigation was opened “under the Competition Act into allegations of deceptive marketing practices, after receiving a request to initiate a section 9 investigation on behalf of six Canadian residents,” a- she clarified
