This resident of the Valognes area (Manche) had to take parental leave because she could not find a solution for the care of her child. Mathilde Cosnefroy-Lelaidier testifies.

As soon as her pregnancy was confirmed, she and her partner Émeline began looking for a childcare system that could suit us. It was not possible for one or the other to stop working, a single salary is impossible for a couple with two children to survive. Then finding work afterwards is too difficult. A real hassle. We contacted the childminders who were closest to our home or our professional trajectory.

“To bridge the gap, we opted for parental leave”
Helped by social networks, the parents of the two little ones began the obstacle course which found its epilogue in November 2023: We did not consider the crèche in Valognes because we already knew the answer.
The solution is a real juggle: Hélia, two and a half years old, will go to school in September. Léonie, who is two months old, is still benefiting from my maternity leave which ends in mid-May. In order to bridge the gap until September when a place becomes available in a childminder home in the Bricquebec sector, we have opted for parental leave of three months instead of six.

The couple lives near Valognes: The opening hours of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at this Childminder Home were a relief. Émeline, working in a large DIY store open Monday to Sunday, works staggered hours, sometimes on weekends. She can also get two days off during the week. She also wants to take advantage of our children. These times will also give me a few hours of break.
