“The culture of staying at home is very present in Corsica and even more in rural areas than in cities”estimates Laurent Curingat, director of the‘Ehpad U Serenu which accommodates up to 106 residents. “We feel that caregivers arrive here as a last resort and that they have a lot of guilt so we try to show them how life is here in order to reassure them”he explains.

Reason why, in Corsica Center more than elsewhere, “we must structure ourselves to ensure optimal care”, he insists. Behind this “We”there is Serenu, the Corte – Tattone intercommunal hospital center and Cap Solidaire, which recently signed an agreement to improve the overall care of dependent peoplefrom home to structure.

“94% of people who arrive at Serenu are entirely dependent”

Through this will “global and structured support”Laurent Curingat also sees it as a way for the nursing home to return to its core business. “Today, 94% of people who arrive at Serenu are entirely dependent, which makes our missions more complex than before because care is increasingly medicalized, which becomes limiting in terms of implementing projects. because automatically, the life project within the nursing home, which is not a dying place, does not allow the occupants to practice animation…”

Aware of policy directions “which go in the direction of home help”in line with “the desire of elderly people to stay at home as long as possible”the director of the structure assures: “The nursing homes must take all of this into account and the tension that exists between the transition from home to the establishment, we have therefore planned, in our establishment project, to reorient our action to create services allowing the nursing home to go to residents’ homes and thus allow our elders to stay at home.”
