The Banque Centrale Populaire (BCP) and Tanger Med Port Authority (TMPA) recently signed the first contract for the use of the Blockchain Payment Gateway platform, serving the port and logistics ecosystem.

Signed on the sidelines of BCP’s participation in the Tanger Logistics Days, this contract marks the commitment of TMPA and the BCP group to continuously develop innovative and efficient payment solutions to serve operators in the port ecosystem, indicates BCP in a press release.

It also announces the generalization of the solution to target importer, freight forwarder and carrier customers, continues the same source.

BCP’s Blockchain Payment Gateway has been successfully integrated into Tanger Med’s Blockchain platform, developed for the benefit of the port and logistics ecosystem. The operations carried out using this solution are characterized by reinforced security, total transparency and instantaneous payments, guaranteeing reliable monitoring of transactions, and minimizing the risks of fraud and errors.

This initiative inaugurates a new era in the Moroccan port logistics landscape and in the national payment system.

Quoted by the press release, the director general of the BCP, Kamal Mokdad, stressed that “this first operation is a real lever to accelerate the development of the port economy. The BCP group and Tanger Med Port Authority wanted to make Blockchain and new technologies around payment a real lever to strengthen the excellence and competitiveness of the national and regional port system.

And to add: “BCP is proud to have contributed to this technological advancement and to support stakeholders in the port ecosystem with cutting-edge solutions.”

For his part, the general director of Tanger Med Port Authority, Hassan Abkari, said that “Tanger Med has deployed solutions based on blockchain technology, and integrated into its Tanger Med Port Community System, allowing better automation and security of documentary and financial flows.”

And to continue: “Thanks to this partnership with the BCP Group, a significant step forward has been made with obtaining the voucher to be issued, thus paving the way for wider adoption of this technology for the benefit of the entire supply chain, and strengthening thus the competitiveness of operators.”
