CAF transfers for the month of May are exceptionally postponed

APL, RSA, allowance… The CAF transfers planned for May have been postponed. Here are the dates of their arrival in the beneficiaries’ accounts.

APL, RSA, family allowance… Nothing will arrive on time in May! All payments made by the Family Allowance Fund (CAF) will be exceptionally late although in theory they should have arrived in the beneficiaries’ accounts in the coming days.

A hard blow for the 13.8 million French households who are waiting for at least one social benefit paid by the CAF. These households bring together around 32.8 million people according to INSEE, taking into account the main recipient and, where applicable, their spouse or children. The delay in payments will therefore affect a significant part of the French population.

Among the expected aid, we find family allowances, affected by 11.7 million households, but also social minima such as the Active Solidarity Income (RSA), the activity bonus or the Allowance for Disabled Adults (AAH). ), received by 7.6 million households. Housing assistance, from which 5.9 million households benefit, is also part of the payments made monthly by CAF.

As a general rule, these benefits are transferred to the recipients’ bank account on the 5th of each month, for the previous month. Thus, aid for the month of January is, for example, paid at the beginning of February. This principle of fixed date payment allows beneficiaries to anticipate the arrival of funds and manage their budget as best as possible.

However, the date of the 5th of the month is not set in stone. Sometimes the payment date may be brought forward. Indeed, when the 5th of the month falls on a Saturday, CAF advances the transfer to Friday, the last working day preceding the weekend. Beneficiaries can then receive their benefits 24 hours earlier. This is what will happen in October 2024, where the aid will be credited from Friday the 4th.

Conversely, if the 5th of the month coincides with a Sunday, the payment of social benefits is this time postponed to the following Monday, i.e. the first working day of the week. Such a postponement, although minimal, can sometimes prove problematic for households whose budget is particularly tight and who urgently need to receive the aid to which they are entitled.

In 2024, beneficiaries will have to be patient. The transfer initially scheduled for Sunday May 5 will, in fact, be postponed to Monday May 6, 2024. Although this slight setback should not pose major difficulties for most households, beneficiaries are however invited to anticipate this change in order to avoid any inconvenience. It should also be borne in mind that the actual payment date into the bank account may still vary by a few days depending on the processing times specific to each establishment. Concretely, CAF beneficiaries may receive their transfer between May 7 and 9, 2024.
