Vincent Bolloré is interested in the construction of a mega battery factory by 2030, according to a spokesperson for the group who told AFP on Tuesday that the site of this future megaproject could be located in “a logistics crossroads between and Germany”.

The group’s subsidiary “ Blue Solutions is actively working on a possible construction project for a mega factory which could see the light of day by 2030, if the conditions are met. explained the same Source who, moreover, specified that this gigafactory, whose construction budget is estimated at 2.2 billion euros, could provide the region of North-East of France with no less than 1,500 positions .

These solid batteries which will be produced by the Vincent Bolloré group will be more efficient and lighter than lithium-ion » and above all rechargeable more quickly than the batteries currently on the market.

Batteries rechargeable in just 20 minutes

In fact, these new generation batteries use lithium metal technology. A material that provides autonomy that far exceeds that of the batteries currently found in our vehicles. Their density could be 20 to 30% higher, so these new batteries could be recharged in just 20 minutes.

As a reminder, this subsidiary of the Vincent Bolloré group had already presented the manufacturing plan for these electric batteries during the Batteries Event trade show, which was held on September 20, 2022 in . The group planned to design reliable solutions by 2025 and put them on the market by 2028.

During the same event, Blue Solutions also revealed part of the mystery about its future, so-called 4th generation, battery cells. Using less lithium at the anode than current batteries, they will have a newer electrolyte, but still in polymer. They will be able to transport a lot of energy with forecasts of 450 Wh/kg, compared to around 260 for current liquid electrolyte batteries. These electric batteries of the future will operate at low temperatures.

Moreover, according to the results of the experiments revealed in Lyon, the new cell can already be charged and discharged 700 times with great efficiency and without losing its capacity even at 20°C. However, by 2028, Blue Solutions will need 1,000 cycles in order to comply with international automotive standards.
