Pub/Report–Isère and Drôme are not particularly recognized as areas welcoming the automobile industry.
This economic geography is changing since in Andancette, a half-hour drive from Vienne, on the border between the two departments, the Aixam company has just inaugurated a brand new automobile factory.
A site which also complements the two other factories located in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, in Chanas in Isère and in Aix-les-Bains in Savoie, the cradle of this company specializing in vehicles without a license, knowing that the manufacturer auralpin is now seen as the European leader in this type of entirely French-made car. In France, Aixam holds 38% market share for license-free vehicles.
For Olivier Pelletier, general manager of Aixam-Mega, “this new production site at the forefront of innovation marks a strategic turning point for the company which strengthens its roots in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region”.

The new Aixam factory in Andancette required 15 months of work for an investment of 30 million euros. It covers 17,400 square meters of industrial premises. A strategic investment which “aims to meet the growing demand for license-free vehicles, whether with thermal or electric engines”.
“This expansion required the expansion of the Aixam-Mega team: of the company’s 350 employees, 160 are now based in Andancette and 30 new positions have been created to support this growth,” specifies the management of the company.
In this new factory, “aluminum profiles” are laser cut; we shape pieces; but also we proceed to the assembly of the frames, while ensuring the surface treatment by…laser stripping “to prepare the surfaces before painting, guaranteeing maximum adhesion and a high quality finish. »
Finally, vehicle assembly takes place on a line made up of 19 installation stations.
Note that 100% of body parts are produced and delivered daily by the nearby Chanas site.
Andancette’s production also aims to be eco-responsible, with the factory highlighting “2,240 m2 of photovoltaic panels, allowing energy self-sufficiency with a 260 kW power plant for self-consumption. »
In total, 6,700 m2 of photovoltaic panels will eventually be installed at the factory…
Finally, note that on its three production sites in the region, Aixam produces 23,000 vehicles each year…
