“When it comes to the regions most vulnerable to cyberattacks in 2023, the Middle East and Africa ranks last with 7% of incidents, while Europe comes first with 32% of incidents, followed by North America (26%), Asia-Pacific (23%) and Latin America (12%),” the document states.

It says the biggest cyber threat faced in 2023 was identity theft, with attackers showing a historical tendency to choose the path of least resistance to pursue their goals.

Researchers also point out the relative ease of acquiring credentials compared to exploiting vulnerabilities or phishing campaigns.

Additionally, the report states that the last year saw the emergence of generative artificial intelligence (gen AI), which has forced the world to rethink how it defines and responds to cyber threats.

In the Middle East and Africa region, authentic local accounts (52%), as well as cloud accounts (48%) were the main vectors of infection, with espionage having the greatest impact, notes the same Source, noting that the most affected sector was that of finance and insurance.
