The long-awaited decision finally comes into force. Heavy goods vehicle traffic will be carried out exclusively through gate number 6 and the new coastal road. Also work at the port of Casablanca will be 24/7, according to a decision by the governor of Casablanca Anfa, taken on April 26, 2024, widely distributed on social media.

Moulay Ahmed Afilal, vice-president of the Municipality of Casablanca, stressed, a few days ago, that the construction work on the concrete road in the middle of the sea has reached more than 95%, and that it is now impossible to give it up. He added that the coastal road project for trucks, linking the port of Casablanca to the Zenata area, is close to being completed and will enter service before April, which will reduce pressure on traffic in the middle of the city, especially during rush hours.

The decision to ban heavy goods vehicles from entering the center of Casablanca is based on a three-pronged plan generally aimed at reducing road traffic within the urban perimeter.

The first axis regulates the access of heavy goods vehicles transporting consumer products and materials used in various economic activities to the city center, allowing large companies, shopping centers and factories to take advantage of specialized platforms to receive goods from all kinds, transported by large trucks, which the Municipality of Casablanca will establish in specialized logistics zones, before distributing them by medium-sized trucks at specific times, outside peak hours.

The second axis of the plan is to build large warehouses near the ring roads, notably on the Southern Ring Road and the South-West Ring Road, to unload their cargoes into small trucks which will transport them to their destination inside the city. The third axis of the plan consists of designating route 322 leading to Zenata as a passage reserved for these trucks to reach the port of Casablanca and other main arteries, avoiding access to the city center.
