Hanoi Architecture – The book brings out the quintessence of thousands of years of Thang Long architecture

Book Architecture Hanoi brings the quintessence of thousands of years of Thang Long – Hanoi architecture, especially the French colonial period, helping readers to have a holistic view of Vietnam in general and the capital in particular.

The book printed by the Gioi publishing house and published by Phanbook by the author Tran Quoc Bao is designed in the form of a hard cover, 364 pages thick, bilingual Vietnamese – French translated by the translator Tham Yen Linh.

It is the result of the serious work of a multigenerational team over the past 2 years. In addition to Dr. Architect Tran Quoc Bao (professor at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering) who compiles the content, there is also a team of young people who design, illustrate and take photos of architectural works to create a book impressive.

The book consists of 3 parts. With the first part on the architecture of ancient Thang Long – Hanoi, readers can learn about the architecture of the three identical citadels of the ancient capital of Thang Long to the ancient architectural works remaining today such as the Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam. In the second part – the main chapter of the book on the architecture of Hanoi during the French colonial period, readers can visit and discover the architectural gems of the French colonial period divided into typical styles such as Beaux-Arts, Deco, Indochina, Old French architecture, steel architecture, Gothic.

The third part is the architecture of Hanoi after 3 and also brings many interesting discoveries about beautiful architectural works that have not received much attention, such as dormitories, other socialist architectural works and modern public works …

Reading this book, readers feel like they are watching a film about the history of Hanoi. In addition, the author also presents typical architectural works across periods such as the Presidential Palace, Hanoi Opera House and Guest House. Government, headquarters of the Supreme People’s Court, Hoa Lo prison…

According to journalist Tran Huu Phuc Tien, the main goal of this work is to spread love for Hanoi and raise awareness about preserving the capital’s cultural and architectural heritage, especially among the younger generation.

In addition, the speakers also pointed out that French architectural works in Hanoi are an expression of the current theme of urban heritage, marking the reception of Hanoi and the modernization process of Vietnam in general.
