I listened to the audio book: A Half-Fig, Half-Praline Christmas (Fleuve Éditions & Lizzie). It's a family comedy full of sweetness and spice for the holidays.
The Praline family… a united family, full of love? Well, let's just say it's a family. And this year, the Christmas festivities promise to be as explosive as a poorly timed fireworks display.
After a first round worthy of a cosmic drama (with eggnog as projectiles), Nathaline and Barbara, the two sisters in a cold war, find themselves faced with an unexpected situation to say the least: their mother, Francine, has disappeared. But not without leaving a scathing slogan: “Reconcile, otherwise I will disappear for good!” »
On the program: a New Year's Eve to save, a family biscuit factory on the verge of sinking and, who knows, maybe even a little sisterly tenderness? But nothing is ever simple among the Pralines, and that's a good thing: we savor their misadventures like a spicy hot chocolate.
Why listen to A Half-Fig, Half-Praline Christmas?
Carène Ponte offers us here a sweet and delicious comedy, ideal for immersing yourself in the holiday atmosphere.
Funny, tender, and above all devoid of the sentimentality often associated with Christmas romances, this story addresses themes that are as realistic as they are touching, while leaving room for some good life lessons. Family relationships are at the heart of the story, and their complexity is depicted with humor and finesse.
And that's not all! A Half-Fig, Half-Praline Christmas has a rare feature: it also exists in a version written from the point of view of the family's teenage daughters, Brune and Nina Lou. If this version is not (yet?) available in audio, we can only applaud the originality of the idea and hope for a future adaptation. In the meantime, the adult version is a little gem, funny, and full of optimism.
A duo of performers to applaud
Camille Lamache's performance deserves a special mention. His incarnations of the characters, notably the sulking teenager and the childbirth scenes, scream truth (literally).
And for those who love little personal touches, you will be delighted to find Carène Ponte herself to perform the final chapters and the acknowledgments. This brings additional warmth to the listener and a unique bond with the author.
A word of advice: don’t let the first few minutes throw you off. The originality of the interpretation quickly takes on its full meaning and contributes to making this comedy even more delicious.
With a duration of 4 hours 40 minutes, this audio fits perfectly into a busy schedule. Do you have a quiet afternoon? Put on your Christmas stockings, make a cup of tea and let yourself be carried away by the misadventures of the Pralines. Click here or Click here to buy it
