Laetitia Cador plays, reads and dances with the books for the 30th anniversary of Editions du Rouergue in Rodezs

First a bookseller in , for several years she has combined her passion for books with reading and dancing. And offers with the musician Nicolas Marmin, a show dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Rouergue Jeunesse. No one better placed than her could do it…

One day, Laetitia Cador decided to close a book to better open another. From the world of books, which she animated for eighteen years at the Maison du livre, in Rodez, she moved on to the animation of books. By that, mean that she decided to stage these stories that we tell children. In the morning, in the afternoon, before going to bed. Because she could associate her third passion with it: that of dance.

“An immeasurable meaning”

Book, story, dance: her happiness. And she admits it: she had the chance to evolve among books and in particular the Rouergue collection, born in Rodez thirty years ago. An edition presented as revolutionary in the world of children’s literature. His companion, David Fourré, who created his own publishing house “Lamaindonne” in Marcillac, worked for Éditions Rouergue. It’s an understatement to say that Laetitia Cador is immersed in this universe. “I know the behind the scenes,” she smiles. So much so that when recalling the thirty years of Rouergue, in particular with Marylyne Bony of the Rodez media library, of exchanges with Olivier Douzou, at the origins of this edition, she says it bluntly: “It made sense to do something. It brought so much to children’s literature. It’s something intangible, but doing this show has immeasurable meaning for me.

Impossible for her, therefore, to do nothing for this birthday. She read everything from this edition born in Rodez, from Jojo la mache the first to the 600 others who followed. And she re-read a lot of them to put together this show, recently presented at the media library and which she will give at the start of the year at the Denys-Puech museum, where a corner has been specially set up to celebrate Rouergue Jeunesse.

“It’s quite exhilarating”

She didn’t want to be alone for this. Bring musical notes that she would dance to too. And it quickly worked with Nicolas Marmin, an eclectic musician who quickly understood where Laetita wanted to go. Each character, each feeling refers to a note, an atmosphere, in this world of imagination drawn and invented for children. She shared her reading suggestions, he shared his notes with her, and the score quickly took shape. “It’s quite exhilarating,” she admits.

Well, it took Laetitia Cador a little time to sort through the six hundred works. There are the essentials, like the first who launched the Rouergue Jeunesse editions, Jojo la mache, Mono le cyclops, etc. Her favorites. Then she let herself be guided by her memories. This is how the blank page, its emptiness, made him think of Bob and company. It is with him that everything will begin for this show which will be called “Let’s start at the beginning”. As Rouergue’s authors play with text and images, she plays with the text. A bit like she played with books. Like the time when she read books to customers at the Maison du livre, with this pleasure that never left her.

Her eyes light up when she sees her child playing with the books again, walking with them. Invite children into your world of books, what could be better? For almost seven years now, she has been developing this staging of the children’s book. Don’t forget the confidence that Sylvie Lechat, of Ram mill’couleurs, gave her, which served as a “laboratory” where she was able to combine dance, theater and reading aloud. With the company la Lloba it enters schools and leisure centers. Surprise. Dream with the children. Share with them in the imagination of the authors. And this music which is unlike any other by Nicolas Marmin which always arrives at the right time.

Since leaving the Ruthenian bookstore, she has been walking between lines and images. “I would have liked to be covered in books,” she laughs, talking about her show. A nice echo to this “game” which is in a way the matrix of Rouergue youth. Almost as if she herself had stepped out of a children’s book.

Laetitia Cador and Nicolas Marmin will play Saturday December 21 at the media library and Wednesday January 8 at the Denys-Puech museum.
