“Tribunes of Memories” is a book written by Bourbonnais Hervé Girard released in spring 2022 where the author recounts his best memories in the stands of different football matches he has attended since 1972; yesterday’s football in a way.
“Tribunes of Memories” is above all a book of passion and memories where Thielois remembers his best moments in the stands. Since 1972, he has seen hundreds of matches at national or international level, whether in the French Championship or Cup, League Cup, European Cups (clubs and nations) and even the World Cup. He recounts his best memories through a work of more than 300 pages, a book for enthusiasts; unforgettable matches with sometimes surprising results, certain encounters experienced from the inside or even epics of certain clubs or nations forever marked in history. And that’s not all with lots of information, anecdotes and testimonies…. 2 chapters devoted to EDS Montluçon (1972/1976), 6 to the exploits of FC Gueugnon (1975/2000), 2 on the clubs of the Moulinoise agglomeration (AS Moulins and AS Yzeure)…
We start with an EDS Montluçon-Olympique de Marseille as a birthday present (March 1972): it cannot be forgotten and history will repeat itself…with repeated matches in the Coupe de France for Moulins (1974, 1975 and 1976) or a 1/16th final again against the Phocaeans of Marius Trésor, Albert Emon or the Brazilian Jairzinho on March 1 1975 in front of 13,302 spectators… You will also find around twenty poignant testimonies from players, coaches, managers and even that of a former Bourbonnais international referee, all actors in a soap opera with inexhaustible episodes for more than half a century . Who said “I scored a goal but the goalkeeper stopped it”which player was nicknamed “El Pib de Oro” or who played 602 matches for the same club?
You will discover the answers to these questions along with much other information developed in 22 chapters. FC Gueugnon was for almost 4 decades the flagship club of Saône et Loire and an entire region: relive the greatest exploits of the Blacksmiths who quite simply marked the history of French football. 6 chapters are devoted to this atypical club and Michel Berthommier (emblematic figure of the Jean Laville stadium) even agreed to produce the preface to the book. The Forgerons will have made thousands of supporters dream both in the championship (D2) and in the Coupe de France. Their rise to Division 1 over the course of a season is recounted, as is the victory in the League Cup (2000 edition) forever engraved in history. Several former players of the Bourguignon club bear witness to these bygone periods tinged with nostalgia. Prize list, stories, anecdotes…. he recounts some crazy evenings in Geoffroy Guichard’s cauldron in St Etienne, a rather unusual classico near Marseille or even a Coupe de France final which almost didn’t end! He also returns to his vision of football seen from the inside with trips alongside an international referee before finishing by evoking the Moulinois clubs which will have shone in the Coupe de France with memorable exploits or epics, without forgetting the base and the authenticity of the most popular sport with some unforgettable moments experienced near Thiel-sur-Acolin, his native village.
All the professionals started with training and some will have played in the International Minimes Tournament (TIF’M); one of them was even crowned World Champion a few years after his arrival in this corner of Sologne Bourbonnaise: everything is told; a book of passion for enthusiasts….
