“The release of a book is always an event. At Hérault Editions, we mainly publish regional historical Books. This is not historic today but will become historic tomorrow. »
It is with these words that the Maulévrais publisher André-Hubert Hérault welcomes the release of Jacquelin Ligot's book, entitled Chronicles of an Age of Lead. Friday November 29, the latter came with him to the Maulévrier library (Maine-et-Loire), to present and sign his work.
Six themes and 45 articles
Chronicles of an Age of Lead is a collection of texts, 45 articles « written for the most part on the fly, on the spur of the moment, between September 2022 and summer 2024” , confides the author. The writing of these mood posts and other notes of personal reflections preceded the idea of making a book, which did not come until 2024.
Jacquelin Ligot makes an uncompromising diagnosis of the weakening of France and the West, which is facing multiple dangers. “I have divided my book into six main themes so that readers can navigate one or the other, without being forced into a complete linear reading. » You can find there what concerns the French State, the anxieties of the West, climate threats, extreme excesses…
Optimism and hope
The painted picture is of a rather dark tone. But, in the end, Jacquelin Ligot wants to be optimistic and does not despair: “France has always experienced periods of decadence and has always managed to raise its head. We must preserve hope and work for future generations. I believe that the French are capable of surprise. This is the invitation of this book…”
Chronicles of an Age of Lead, 448 pages, €20, published by Hérault. Preface by Bruno Retailleau, Minister of the Interior.
