“It’s a beautiful book that could make a lovely local Christmas gift,” praises Nicolas de Laek, the bookseller of L'Ancre des mots, in Sablé-sur-Sarthe. This Saturday, November 30, 2024, he is offering a signing session around the book in his bookstore. The Great Book of the Sarthoisin the presence of Benoit Hubert, one of its contributors. There are around thirty authors who have produced this encyclopedia highlighting 400 personalities with a link to Sarthe.
Seven years of work
Writers, historians, academics, journalists and simple enthusiasts have taken up their pens under the leadership of Bertrand Coudreau, president of the Auteurs du Maine et du Loir. Their work lasted seven years and the result was published in August 2024, by Sutton Editions (244 pages, €35).
The founder of Unicef, from the series What do I know? or even from the publishing house POL: they are all from Sarthois. The department also counts on high-ranking personalities including a Nobel Prize winner, a Goncourt, an engineer from the Eiffel Tower, a former Prime Minister, etc.
