The 26th Cahors Old and Modern Book Fair is taking place this weekend at the Espace Valentré. It pays tribute to surrealism, through its guests Patrick Fréchet and the publisher Jean-Michel Place, but also Georges Sebbag.

The 26th Cahors old and modern book fair, in the Lot, will take place on September 14 and 15 at the Espace Valentré.

Around twenty exhibitors

Entrance to this major regional event for lovers of old and modern books is completely free. Around twenty exhibitors, booksellers of old and second-hand books from all over France, will present a selection of more than 30,000 curious or rare books and documents.

This year, this fair will be placed under a special sign. October 15, 2024, will be the centenary of the publication of the first surrealist manifesto by André Breton. To celebrate the event, the fair will welcome Patrick Fréchet as guest of honor and Jean-Michel Place, a surrealist publisher, as guest editor. The fair will welcome for the first time the new bookstore of Cahors: La petite faiseuse de livres in the person of Etienne Crosnier.

A conference by Georges Sebbag on Sunday

Then, a highlight will take place on Sunday, September 15 at 3 p.m. Georges Sebbag, writer and doctor of philosophy, will hold a conference in the Valentré space. “Georges Sebbag met André Breton in 1964. They worked together until 1969 and he participated in the surrealist movement and wrote several remarkable works on the subject. I am very happy that he is doing us the honor of participating in our 26th salon,” says Jean-Luc Boisseau, president.

But that’s not all, on this occasion, the show will publish five different limited edition bookmarks which will be available to collect for free on the various stands.

Activities during the two days

Visitors to the Cahors old and modern book fair will also be able to see the art of artisanal bookbinding with Béatrice Jaques; a publishing house from Lot (Editions JKDC) will be showcasing its editorial production and the publishing house from Lot Super Loto Éditions, with its obvious surrealist affinities, will also be present.

This year again, visitors will be able to try to win 100 euros in vouchers to spend this year or in 2025 at the Cahors old and modern book fair.
