Place at the 59th Rimouski Book Fair

Nearly 250 authors are converging these days on the Rimouski Convention Center to take part in an unmissable fall event: the Book Fair, which is in its 59th year.e edition this year.

Until November 10, readers of all ages, including a plethora of schoolchildren, will be able to stock up on books, meetings and ideas at the Book Fair.

Each year, the response from schools is impressive. We’re running out of space. We have nine rooms which run continuously all day long with school activitiessaid the artistic director of the Salon, Camille Crédeville, in an interview on the show Alarm clock.

More than 90 school workshops will be offered and nearly 5,000 children are expected at the Book Fair.

Once again this year, the organization is committed to providing food for thought through around fifteen conferences and round tables addressing current issues, from the future of Palestine to the creation queerthrough indigenous societies and the reality of caregiversas the organization indicates.

This year’s guests of honor

  • The writer and professor Catherine Mavrikakishas published, in recent months, the novels On the heights of Mount Thoreau et On the roads : A strange journey from Chicago to Alamogordoboth published by Héliotrope.
  • The journalist and former diplomat Jean-François Lépine present the book The anxieties of my Chinese teacherpublished last fall by Editions Libre Expression.
  • The facilitator and sociologist by training Jean-Philippe Pleau will come to discuss the phenomenon of class defector that he addresses in Rue Duplessis, my little darknesspublished by Lux last spring.
  • The Wendat author and ethnologist Isabelle Picard presents for its part the novel Ice cubes like glassat Flammarion, which notably lifts the veil on the 60s scoop and native residential schools.
  • The novelist and anthropologist of Palestinian origin Yara El-Ghadban will be at the Salon to talk about his latest book, The flamingo dancepublished by Mémoire d’encrier.
  • The cartoonist from Quebec Philippe Girard for its part published The prince of high-flying birdswith La Pastèque.
  • Finally, the Rimouski publisher, bookseller and writer Anthony Lacroix presents his fourth book, Proust at the gympublished by Editions de Ta Mère.

Francine Ruel, Amélie Dubois, Yves P. Pelletier, Karoline Georges, Stéphane Garneau and Patrick Senécal will also be at the Book Fair.

“We have a region which has quite extraordinary literary effervescence whether in poetry, novels, etc., so the Salon is a showcase for them and we are delighted to allow the meeting between these authors and the public”, affirms the artistic director of the Salon, Camille Crédeville.

Several events such as interviews and author meetings also take place outside the walls during the Book Fair. The Paraloeil Cinema also offered carte blanche to the author and presenter Mélissa Mollen Dupuis, within the framework of which the public will be able to attend, Thursday evening, the screening of Kanehsatake : 270 years of resistance.

Poetry lovers will be able to enjoy it during the show Words shared from here and elsewherepresented Friday evening at the Bains publics. The “Bains de poetes III” evening, organized in collaboration with the magazine L’Estuaire and the Salon du livre, will be held Saturday evening at the same location.

A special edition of the show Same frequencywhich will welcome a crowd of authors invited to the Salon, will be broadcast live Friday afternoon on the mezzanine, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The traditional Sunday literary lunch will be hosted this year by - journalist Julie Tremblay.

The organization plans to welcome 12,000 to 15,000 visitors and is calling on more than 130 volunteers.

The Jovette-Bernier prize, which aims to highlight the quality of a literary work published by a writer from the region, was awarded this year to Mélilot de Repentigny. Originally from Montreal but living in Rimouski for six years, they published a story entitled Name the living published by Leméac.
