Poetry, comedy, theater, science fiction… The literary genres are as varied as the stories to tell. But where do writers’ ideas come from?
We asked this question to four authors Samarians present at Nouvion Book Fair October 26, 2024: Eric Vasseur, Denis Jaillon, Alain Dercourt and Christine Flandre.
If some are not writing their first novels, for others writing is still a new adventure. Yet they all have one thing in common: their overflowing imagination.
The medical environment
An island for themthis is the premier thriller d’Eric Vasseur. This resident of Canchy (Somme) started writing 8 years ago, at the dawn of his retirement. After a autobiography in which he is none other than a psychopath, a novel inspired byindustrial history of Calais and one family sagaEric leans his pen on the medical environment.
An island for them is openly inspired by his forty years of experience in the field. The author points in particular to the scams which he witnessed… By putting himself, this time, in the shoes of the thug.
The world of Jules Verne
Here too, the line between fiction and reality is still fine in the latest book of Denis Jaillon. Writer from an early age and delegate of the Society of French Poets in the Somme, he is today the author of two novels, a collection of poems and an anthology.
Denis immerses his reader in An extraordinary trip to the Bay of Somme. To write this historical novelhe was inspired by several paintings on the theme of travel and stories of Jules Verne.
For 144 pages, the reader sets out to meet young Jules, sailing from England to the Bay of Somme.
An Italian pornography actress
He has been writing since he was in middle school and published his first novel at 17. Alain Dercourt wrote three volumes around a single female figure: Anna Moana Rosa Pozzi.
One day the angels spoke to me about you is truly inspired by the life of this Italian pornographic actress who died of cancer in the 1990s.
Impressed by her career, her beauty and her intelligence, Alain chose to make her the main character of his novel and to be the second. The slightest information gathered about Moana Pozzi serves to nourish the romantic and tumultuous relationship of the two main characters.
And the life of this Italian actress continues to inspire our writer. “Here I am in the middle of writing volume 10,” he confided at the Book Fair. But before reading this tenth volume, you will already have to delve into reading the fourth volume which will come out on November 20, 2024.
The coronavirus
It is with humour what Christine Flandre took his first steps in the world of literature. The CocoVs and the Chimera it’s a fun and burlesque version of the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is in mars 2020during the premier confinement that Christine begins to write. “Every evening I watched the news and wrote down the most absurd things I heard about the coronavirus,” explains the author.
“We all remember, for example, a certain head of state who recommended swallowing bleach to avoid getting sick,” she illustrates, smiling.
So Christine imagined the universe of her novel based on the informations that she collected during the pandemic. “I humanize several small coronaviruses that travel from China and cross the world. And I imagined their vision of being human in situations like this.” The CocoVs and the Chimera c’is a satire of the greatest stupidities of human beings, signed Christine Flandre.
As you will have understood, these four authors all have one thing in common: an overflowing imagination, nourished by real facts.
