L’Étrange Festival is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Its 2024 edition took place from September 3 to 15 at the Forum des Images, and a beautiful book published by Carlotta was there to pay a vibrant tribute to this festival like no other.

Created at the beginning of the 1990s, when so-called genre cinema remained the “ugly duckling” of theatrical exhibition, L’ÉTRANGE FESTIVAL has become over the years an essential scout, discovering whole sections of cinematography from the margins . This book retraces this crazy adventure through stories, portraits and unpublished sketches. A must for fans of eccentric, adventurous, subversive, unclassifiable art!

Strengthened in its choices by the support of a public eager for unusual/original proposals, L’ÉTRANGE FESTIVAL applied this same desire and demand for singularity for its artistic performances and musical creations, Diamanda Galás to Residentspassing through Pere Now, Tuxedomoon or Alec Empire…

As the curtain has just fallen on this first quarter of a century, it seems appropriate to retrace the highlights of these years of discovery by giving voice to those who have contributed most powerfully to the history of the FESTIVAL.

Over more than three hundred pages, the filmmakers, the smugglers, the inventors, will reveal to you for the first time everything you always wanted to know about THE STRANGE… Without forgetting the complete list, year per year, thousands of films and events presented over these thirty years.
