Léa Clermont-Dion finalist for another prize for her essay “File complaint”

The essay, already in the running for a Governor General’s Literary Award, is also nominated for the new Janette-Bertrand Literary Prize.

In her book, Clermont-Dion recounts her experience in the legal system when she filed a complaint for sexual assault.

Among the four other finalists for the prize, we also find “It could have been a film”, by Martine Delvaux, and “Les Disgracieuses”, by Claudia Larochelle.

The books “Toronto Never Blue,” by Marie-Hélène Larochelle, and “Self-portrait of Another,” by Élise Turcotte, were also selected.

The Janette-Bertrand Literary Prize aims to reward Quebec and Franco-Canadian works that advance the causes of gender equality, women’s autonomy and the fight against gender-based violence. It was created in November 2023 by the Montreal Book Fair and this year is the first edition.

The jury was chaired this year by former Prime Minister Pauline Marois.

“The five finalist authors (…) each in their own way, continue the fight started by pioneers of the caliber of Ms. Bertrand, by continuing to raise awareness and celebrating the beauty and possibilities that literature offers” , declared Ms. Marois in a press release.

The jury was also made up of editor and librarian Vanessa Allnutt, literature student Jeanne Boivin, host and columnist Vanessa Destiné and bookseller Phlippe Fortin.
