“It’s a positive, very optimistic book”, Arlesian Chico Bourchikhi tells the story of his life

Few lives are worth putting down on paper. But for a long time, every time he told his story, Chico Bouchikhi received the same reaction from his interlocutors: there is nothing banal about this existence. “A little over a year and a half ago, I decided to write it. I wanted to leave a mark for my children, my grandchildren. And above all, I wanted to give an example of all the positive things that can be learned from dramatic situations. My story is one of resilience, of forgiveness. It seemed to me that it was a beautiful message in these dark times“, says the author of Under the gypsy stars, my life with the Gypsiesautobiography published by Robert Laffont, in bookstores from this Thursday, October 17.

The story that the emblematic co-founder of the Gypsy Kings and then leader of the group Chico and the Gypsies decided to tell begins even before him, with the arrival in from Morocco and Algeria of his parents, then of his childhood between the city center, Griffeuille, la Roquette…”I tell the daily story of this magnificent life that we lived. I also come back to my meeting with Nicolas Reyes when he was 12 and I was 14. His voice already fascinated me. Then I met his entire family and with them, I discovered an incredible world populated by very modest but incredibly rich people. I spent my whole life with them“.
