The Star Wars universe has already been explored from all angles and when we received the PDF of this future book, we can only wonder about the usefulness of yet another book on the saga. What else could we learn? Why focus only on the third part of the first trilogy: Return of the Jedi ? Editions Huginn & Munnin, which had already graced us last year with a beautiful book on Steven Spielberg, are this time publishing in French this English-language book which promises: “The final fight against Palpatine, the destruction of the Death Star, the disappearances of Vader and Yoda, but also the Ewoks and the fights on Endor, or even Jabba the Hutt, his mercenaries and his court… Released in 1983, The Return of the Jedi – with its cult scenes and new characters – closed the first Star Wars trilogy while developing its mythology and notoriety like never before. Rich in hundreds of photographs, illustrations and archival documents, with numerous facsimiles and leaflets, this work reveals everything behind the scenes of this legendary film and shows to what extent it continues to inspire the Star Wars galaxy. A must-have book for fans of all generations. »
And after having finished reading the work, we can only agree with this note of intention. Certainly, the biggest fans will not necessarily learn much, but we cannot deny that for this book the smallest dishes have been put into the big ones as this book is full of images, photos, drawings, details or anecdotes about the feature film. In addition to explaining the work done on Return of the Jedi, the authors also focus on the influence that this episode of Star Wars had on the works that followed: books, series and films. But that’s not all yet, a final part of the book also focuses on the extras such as merchandising, video games, cartoons about Ewoks, posters, etc. In the end, we are pleasantly surprised by the quality of the work provided here and it is not impossible that you will learn a lot about the work done on this Star Wars opus and the consequences it had on the sequel to the universe. And if the quality of the book’s material on Spielberg is anything to go by, this edition should also be superb to enrich one’s collection and feature well in the library.
