a book fair in the projects of the association of former students of Georges-Sand

The association of former students of the George-Sand de La Châtre middle and high school (AECLC) held its general meeting, Sunday September 29, 2024, chaired by Mireille Naturel, in the presence of Patrick Judalet, mayor of La Châtre, Michèle Selleron, departmental advisor and Eduard Van Hootegem, high school principal.

The outgoing president, Jean-Philippe Gontier presented the actions carried out by the association over the past year, during cultural, sporting and educational events, such as the inauguration of the plaque placed on rue Galliéni on the house where Georges Loutil, founder of the association, lived, or even participation in the final of the Éloquencez-vous competition.

A project focused on youth and regional literature

Mireille Naturel discussed future actions, particularly within the framework of the conference cycle launched several years ago. A reflection is underway on the project of creating in La Châtre a book fair oriented towards children’s literature and regional literature, drawing on its experience and on initiatives carried out in the department and in other regions.

This would be a collective action, in partnership with middle and high school representatives, teachers, students, the intercommunal library and the city’s cultural service.

Numbers are falling

In addition, it is important to recruit, the association is now seeing its number of contributing members decrease, the statutes would make it possible to welcome teachers. At the end of the session, the elections renewed the mandate of Marie-Thérèse Ampeau, Marie-Christine Marais, Claude-Olivier Darré, outgoing members, validated the co-optation of Antoine Momot to replace Jean-Claude Boury, who resigned. Mireille Naturel and Jean-Philippe Gontier were renewed as president and vice-president respectively.

The meeting ended with the laying of wreaths and the tribute paid to the teachers and former students who died for , as well as to the members who died during the year: Thérèse Floquet, Martine Augat, Robert Selleron and Yvonne Vassel .
