Book Fair: six decades of success

The 60th edition of the Saguenay-La-Saint-Jean Book Fair ended on a positive note last Sunday, when 300 authors came to meet the public. The organizers estimate that nearly 21,000 people showed up at the ticket office to benefit from these four days dedicated to the 5th art.

The general director, Virginia Gagnon, feels grateful for the loyalty of the public and is delighted to see young and old go out to meet the exhibitors and return with books, like treasures. For his part, the president of the board of directors of the SLSLSJ corporation, Philippe Fortin-Villeneuve, says he is exhilarated by the participation and enthusiasm of the public as well as the community spirit that develops between the participants, making this show an authentic celebration.

It was also an opportunity for journalist and new author, Jean Houle, to present his novel “La bonne gang”, which tells us about the inspiration behind his work: hockey.

To become an author, you must first have a publisher and the sports journalist tells us how he came to collaborate with Béliveau editions in order to see his project come to fruition.

Finally, Mr. Houle reveals to us the triggering event that pushed him to start the writing process and the reason why he agreed to come and share his passion with people, at the Delta Hotel in Saguenay.

This 60th edition closed with the draw for the Lumière sur les authors d’ici competition, presented by Hydro-Québec, which allowed one lucky person to win all the books published since the last edition of the Book Fair by authors and authors from the region, with an approximate value of $2,500.
