“Love Wow” by Neville Thompson unveiled in in 2000

Published in 1997 in the United Kingdom, Love phew had been translated in France in 2000 by Robert Laffont. It followed the ups and downs of two young lovers, Jackie and Johnser, children from the deprived neighborhoods of Berlin who met for the first time at a dance party… or rather a fight that broke out outside said dance party. Alternating the points of view of the lovebirds, the novel begins in reverse: while a tragedy is about to occur, the reader discovers through flashbacks their family history, their relationship problems and the separate paths they have sometimes taken, punctuated by theft and violence. As the cinematic release of Gilles Lellouche’s adaptation approaches, the novel Love phew has just been reissued in paperback by 10-18, featuring the film poster on its cover.

“Love is Crazy”: François Civil and Adèle Exarchopoulos in Northern France

Neville Thompson, who works with young people with drug problems on a daily basis in addition to his writing, also had a thought in the book’s acknowledgements for the director and his producer: ” This reissue of Love phew was made possible thanks to the commitment of Gilles Lellouche and Alain Attal who, many years ago, fell in love with it, put their money where their mouth was and remained faithful to their commitment. » In the film, François Civil and Adèle Exarchopoulos play Clotaire and Jackie respectively as adults, in a story transposed to the North of France in the 80s. The screenplay also includes Ahmed Hamidi, screenwriter and director of the acclaimed Golo & Ritchie released this summer, but above all Audrey Diwan, crowned for her films The Event And Love and Forests which she had already adapted from novels by Annie Ernaux and Éric Reinhardt.
