“Jacaranda” by Gaël Faye, “Houris” by Kamel Daoud and “The Winter Warriors” by Olivier Norek in the first selection

Gaël Faye, Kamel Daoud and Olivier Norek are part of the first selection of novels for the Prix Renaudot unveiled on Thursday 4 September, after having also been in the Prix Goncourt selection. They are respectively signing up for this literary rentrée Jacaranda, Houris et The Winter Warriors. This first selection includes 18 novels, only three of which are written by women. One of them, Hemley Boum, stands out because it was published not at this literary rentrée, but in January.

The “essays” selection includes 11 titles, some of which are stories, including one illustrated, that of Frédéric Pajak on Nietzsche and music. Among the novels, those of Étienne Kern, Philippe Jaenada and Thibault de Montaigu were also selected by the first 16 titles in the running for the Goncourt.

The Renaudot Prize is to be awarded on November 4, at the Drouant restaurant in Paris, just after the Goncourt, as tradition dictates. Before that, a second selection is scheduled for October 3, then a third on October 24.

The jury kept the same 10 members as in 2023, including the 2008 Nobel Prize winner, Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio, and Georges-Olivier Châteaureynaud as secretary general.
