the essential
A project to create a reception area for travelers is disturbing the peace and quiet of the inhabitants of Biars-sur-Cère. For local residents, the land is not suitable.

When he looks at the half-cultivated field, he finds it hard to imagine that caravans could settle here. Yes, but there you go. For several weeks, this resident of Biars-sur-Cère who wants to remain anonymous has no longer been as serene as before. A project to create a busy area for travelers has sparked a stir in this small town of 2,000 inhabitants. There, Cauvaldor plans to set up a reception area which could accommodate 16 caravans. Out of the question for this resident who lives close to the land, near the cemetery, in the Biars bourg district.

“In December, when we discovered the project, it was a cold shower. We knew that Bretenoux, Girac and Puybrun were in the pipeline, but not Biars. We don't understand why it came out of the hat, now”, observes the riverside. He measured: the access path to the land is 4.60 meters wide. “Too narrow. It's already difficult for two cars to pass each other, so caravans aren't reasonable. Trucks are sent down this path by certain GPS devices and are forced to turn around because they don't have no room to move around,” he remarks again.

And then, the land concerned is, according to him, too close to the center's heritage. “In my heart, it's as if Biars was classified with its old houses. Mine dates from 1656, it's one of the oldest homes in the town. It will be devalued if the area is built”, he notes again. Why Biars? No, really, the resident doesn't understand: “We don't have many sites, not many possibilities to expand or build. In addition, the land requires lifting pumps to access everything. the sewer. There is nothing serious about this project.” The proximity of Travelers doesn't enchant him either. “I'm afraid that cohabitation won't go well,” he says.

5 different owners

One of his neighbors was also amazed when he discovered the project. “There was no consultation. The land envisaged concerns 5 different owners who are not even aware of it,” he assures. According to him, the site is made up of several strips of 2000m². He owns neighboring locations. “My land will lose value, a two-hectare plot of land worth 500,000 euros risks going to 10,000 €,” he imagines. Next step for these angry residents: a petition. “We will do everything in our power to ensure that this area does not see the light of day here,” they continue in unison.

Jean-Claude Fouché, the president of Cauvaldor, reminds us that nothing is “final”. “We have identified four areas which could correspond within the framework of the departmental plan for welcoming Travelers. One in Bretenoux, one in Girac, one in Puybrun and this one, therefore, in Biars. But we are not there yet. although at the reflection stage, there is no financial programming The Biars site ticks the boxes because it is close to schools and social services, as required by the departmental plan. work will begin and will be able to last two to three years.
