By taking a long-distance hiking trail (GR), such as the legendary GR34 which runs along the coast, we unknowingly benefit from the work of small hands: the volunteers who mark the trails. Among the 2,500 members of the departmental committee of the French Hiking Federation (FFRP), 126 walking lovers give their time so that the GR and the great country hikes (GRP), i.e. 1,600 km in total , are signposted and clearly identified. Each team of two or three markers marked “a few dozen kilometers”, while carrying out an “environmental watch”, specifies Serge Nilly, president of the committee.

“Recognized and respected”

Monday January 13 in , the Department equipped these markers with vests, for an amount of €5,000. The goal: to “identify” volunteers to “guarantee their safety during their interventions on hiking trails,” indicates the institution. They will thus be “recognized and respected”, adds the Departmental Council. “This initiative is also part of recognition of the important role played by FFRP volunteers following storm Ciaran. Their commitment allowed the rapid restoration of hiking trails,” continues the Department.
