The project is structured into 3 main parts including:
Part 1: Discourse theory and literary research – theoretical issues: Reconstruct the academic portrait of Foucault and provide a theoretical framework for discourse analysis in general as well as discuss the relationship between discourse analysis and literary studies.
Part 2: Discourse theory and issues in Vietnamese literature and history: In-depth analysis of the power/knowledge relationship between the colonial subject and the colonial subject's discourse on identity and others; Analyze power relations between the sexes and their consequences in literary life from the Middle Ages to 1945; Raise the question of literary institutions and their impacts on creative activities in the history of Vietnamese literature from the Middle Ages to the modern era.
Part 3: Colors of Discourse with 9 independent articles, articles covering many areas and topics. The operations and concepts of discourse analysis tools in these articles are used intertwined with other literary analysis operations and skills.
During the event, Prof.Dr. NGND. Tran Dinh Su commented on the work: “Literature as Discourse is a valuable contribution not only to Vietnamese literary research, literary historians but also to literary theory. »
Meanwhile, Associate Professor, Ph.D. Khac Hoa affirms that Literature as Discourse by Tran Van Toan can be considered an “unprecedented” treatise, due to its content and its approach to the object of research.
“In terms of content, it is a study of literary history. The history of Vietnamese literature from the Middle Ages to modernity is the main object of the author's reflection and the story placed at the center of the treatise. This subject is addressed mainly by the discourse theory of Michel Foucault”, Associate Professor, PhD. La Khac Hoa affirmed.
According to the University Educational Press, Literature as Discourse (Mr. Foucault's discourse theory and Vietnamese historical literature) is published to serve the research and teaching of literature in universities and high schools.
Hopefully this is a useful research paper, opening many research directions not only in the field of literature but also in other scientific fields, because Mr. Foucault's discourse theory is “not only intended to learning literature.
