The director of Bac Nord et Novembre features Gilles Lellouche and Adèle Exarchopoulos, in a future where police officers work with the help of an all-powerful artificial intelligence.
It will be one of the big pieces of French cinema in 2025: scheduled for October 15 in theaters, Chien 51 by Cédric Jimenez (La French, Bac Nord, November…) is the adaptation of the eponymous novel by Laurent Gaudé. The story, in 2045, of a Paris divided into zones which separate social classes and monitored by the AI Alma. Salia (Adèle Exarchopoulos), elite investigator from Zone 2, and Zem (Gilles Lellouche), disillusioned police officer from Zone 3, are forced to collaborate to investigate the assassination of Alma's inventor. Their investigation will quickly reveal much deeper layers of conspiracy that force them to question their own allegiances, as well as the true nature of the authority that governs the country.
On the occasion of our 2025 previews file, to read in the new issue of FirstJimenez warns that he allows himself some deviations from the book:
« The universe and the characters are still there, but we moved away from the book by refocusing the story on the detective intrigue and adding things, including this artificial intelligence which is not in the novel. »
The director prefers to avoid the term “science fiction” and prefers to speak of “''augmented present'', with a certain dystopian dimension. It's not Minority Reportartificial intelligence does not predict crimes. » He also promises that there is “ has a lot of action scenes and tension in Chien 51. As the film takes place over a period of two weeks, we are looking at something very compact and very rhythmic. »
