A few hours ago, we learned the sad news: Maïté has left us. Marie-Thérèse Ordonez, real name, legend and culinary icon of French television, was 86 years old and died in her beloved Landes village, Rion-des-Landes. If we will miss her for a long time, for her good humor, her frankness and her unique highlighting of the generous and invigorating gastronomy of the South-West, we have found a consolation prize.
Brought to you by the brilliant author Paul-Henry Bizon, recently at the origin of a superb podcast on the “Jeune Rue” scam in Paris, this is a book, quite incredible, which compiles and collects numerous transcripts of episodes of the show “The Cuisine of the Musketeers”the cooking show broadcast on France 3 Aquitaine which made her famous. A work by Gala Colette, published by Éditions de l'Épure, published in 2023.
“We follow, in the company of Maïté and Micheline, the preparation of a snail fricassee, a coypu terrine or an ostrich steak, says the publishing house. If the recipes are not the easiest to understand, the transition to writing gives them an interesting twist. Maïté and Micheline, emblematic figures of television, knew better than anyone how to put words to their actions, and did not skimp on convoluted turns of phrase and equivocal comparisons, all in a singular vocabulary, rich in images. The texts, without indications of dialogue, read like short stories. They are accompanied by visuals, close shots of food, utensils or gestures.”
A book already on the way to becoming collector's item, and legendary.
