Bresse. A day dedicated to books and solidarity this Saturday

On Saturday, December 21, the Maison des Loisirs et de la Culture, located at 7A rue de La Clairie, will put and reading in the spotlight through two events that will combine solidarity and literary passion.

A book sale for the benefit of migrants

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., a second-hand book sale will be offered to the public. The profits will benefit Asil’accueil 88, more precisely its Haute Moselotte and Gérardmer sections. This association is run by volunteers under the coordination of Géraldine Bernal and Anne-Marie Riedinger.

“The general objective of our association is to support migrants to facilitate their integration. The actions are varied and concern different areas: finding accommodation, helping with administrative procedures, defending rights, learning the French language, meeting other migrants and participating in various workshops,” explains Jean-Pierre Géhin, an active member of the association.

A friendly evening around reading

From 6:30 p.m., the event will take a more literary turn with the “And if we read” session. True to its concept, this event will bring together six volunteers, each having ten minutes to present a book of their choice and share its essence with the public.

Martine Longhi, member of the organizing team, talks about the philosophy of these evenings: “The presenters are volunteers who want to share their pleasure of reading with the public. The choice of books is completely free, as is the content of the presentation. We really appreciate the diversity of the works presented: novels, essays, short stories, comics… Simplicity and spontaneity are essential.”

The evening will continue with a moment of friendly discussion around a buffet prepared by the organizers.

A collective mobilization

Placed under the aegis of the Maison des Loisirs et de la Culture de La Bresse, this day mobilizes its entire team, employees and volunteers, as Sylvie Géhin, vice-president of the structure, points out. Teenagers will also be there, helping to set up the books and welcome, with pancakes, chocolate and hot cider on the program.
