At full speed
After two first opuses, respectively devoted to Alsatian vehicle collectors and American cars, the journalist Laurent Gentilhomme and the photographer Dominique Giannelli have signed a new work. This time, twenty exceptional racing cars, all from the collections of the National Automobile Museum, are presented: from the Jamais contente of 1899, to the Ferrari 312B of 1970, including (of course) the Bugatti Type 35 which fascinated Fritz Schlumpf. Accessible to all, the book distils anecdotes without going into ultra-specific technical considerations. Photography elevates, if necessary, these old cars to the rank of works of art.
“At full speed, 20 cars from the Mulhouse Automobile Museum”, by Laurent Gentilhomme and Dominique Giannelli, published by Alsagraphic. 29€.
Ransacking
If the case of the looting of the Museum of Printing on Fabrics (MISE), the investigation of which is still in progress, has already caused a lot of ink to flow, it has not yet been entitled to an image. This is now done with “Mise à sac”, by journalist Hélène Poizat and former elected official Pierre Freyburger, magnificently illustrated by Mulhouse illustrator Fanny Delqué. The reader immerses himself in the heart of a story stretching over more than 30 years, from 1985 to 2023, with the major turning point in 2018 and the discovery of the looting, which coincides with the sudden death of the museum director and the disappearance of the conservative…

Historical directory of Mulhouse, volume 35
In his 35e Historical directory, the Mulhouse History and Geography Society focuses in particular on the city’s squares and public spaces, and on the Place de la Réunion in particular. The directory also includes fascinating studies on the electoral geography of Mulhouse, developments in public space and the city’s place as a crossroads for EuroVélo routes 5 and 6. This edition also addresses, among other things, the question of industrialization of the suburb of Colmar, the Jewish community of Mulhouse at the end of the Middle Ages, the Lys pharmacy, one of the oldest in France, Alfred Wallach’s garden in Riedisheim… So many subjects which are all treated with the same rigor and concern for historical veracity.

Alsatian general practitioner
A personal testimony, which reflects the complex history of Alsace. This is the story offered by Philippe Weber, who published a set of texts written by his father and discovered after his death. The reader immerses himself in the life of Gaston Weber: his childhood in Mulhouse, his medical studies, then the Second World War… Mobilized, wounded prisoner, tossed between the Germanic eagle and the tricolor rooster, before working at Hasenrain, then to open his general medicine practice in Wittenheim in 1946.

Alfred Dreyfus, complete works (1894-1936)
Les Belles Lettres editions publish the complete works of Alfred Dreyfus, born in Mulhouse, who unfortunately became famous for the affair to which he gave his name: “’Les Lettres d’un innocent’, followed three years later by his diary of Devil’s Island, ‘Five years of my life’, are only part of the writings of the man resisting reason of state and racial persecution which would gradually overwhelm Europe – and which colonial violence was already preparing.
The Complete Works of Captain Dreyfus, collected and published for the first time by two renowned historians, reveal one man’s destiny – to a grateful homeland and humanity. A life with obvious civic and political modernity, which speaks to us and moves us as rarely. With Dreyfus in the text, the entire Affair comes back to us in the present. »
