1994–2024: 30 years since the death of Kurt Cobain
In the second half of the 1980s, the rock movement experienced a new revolution. Grunge, such is its name, which, in its broad outlines, is a cocktail of punk and heavy metal with a deliberately neglected look, is the reflection of the disenchantment of an entire generation – Generation X.
The birthplace of grunge is Washington State, Seattle and neighboring cities. Nirvana is the emblematic formation — Kurt Cobain on vocals and guitar, Krist Novoselic on the bass, Chad Channing to the battery, then replaced by Dave Grohl. Just three studio albums, “Bleach”, “Nevermind” and “In Utero”, released between 1989 and 1993, were enough for them to enter the very closed circle of cult groups. Uncompromising music, disturbing but captivating, dark texts, sometimes ironic, which delve into the traumatic past of Try it, Nirvana profoundly transformed the history of rock.
Abundantly illustrated with striking photos, this book shines the spotlight on the history of this legendary group, on its albums, its songs, on its concerts which have always been great moments of communion with the public. The book also looks at the musical trends that emerged in the 1980s and 1990s, grunge, of course, also embodied by Mudhoney, Alice in Chains or Soundgardenbut also hardcore punk, alternative/independent rock, as well as events that shook the world, such as the Gulf War.
