The political caricature appeared at the beginning of the 18th century.e century. The revolution of 1830 then gave press cartoons or current affairs cartoons a boost in the newspapers which were flourishing. It is an opportunity to mock society, to criticize its leaders in the form of a drawing and to convey messages that appeal to readers. Over the years, the press cartoon has been scathing, irreverent, provocative, and for some blasphemous. It is true that with a stroke of the pen, with insolence or complacency, the press cartoonist summarizes the event, the essential historical fact or the detail of the story. By his gesture, he can provoke a smile, a laugh, and for some, offence, disdain, even hatred and push some to kill. This work relates the evolution of caricature and press cartoons from the beginning of the 19th century. And century until the Charlie Hebdo tragedy of January 7, 2015. A dive into the history of French politics through the drawings of Honoré Daumier, Effel, Siné, Reiser, Wolinski, Charb, Cabu…. A fragile freedom , which must be defended and which certain countries envy us.
