For the end-of-year celebrations, Paris Aéroport is transforming the halls of Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly into real spaces of solidarity and celebration. This operation, carried out with Secours populaire français and Relay, invites travelers to leave a book at collection points that marked them or accompanied them during their flight. These Books will be redistributed or sold during solidarity clearance sales to finance Secours populaire actions.
With this initiative, Paris Aéroport offers travelers the opportunity to pass on much more than a book: an escape, a part of elsewhere. Each donation will help provide moments of reverie and discovery to those who need them. For people who cannot deposit a book, an online platform allows them to share the title of a significant work, each sharing generating a donation of €1 for the benefit of Secours populaire.
The operation can also count on the support of the writer Sophie Astrabie, godmother of the event. She was revealed in 2018 with her novel The April Pact (Albin Michel). In 2020, she co-wrote a short story for the collection Hero Seedsproduced as part of a Unicef operation in partnership with Le Livre de Poche.
To make the wait more pleasant, the Paris Aéroport terminals will offer a festive and literary program. Musical and theatrical performances, readings of classics and stories about the magic of Christmas will punctuate departures and arrivals. From December 18, facilitators will circulate with mobile kiosks to collect books directly from passengers.
The DIY workshops will appeal to the most creative, allowing them to make personalized bookmarks, perfect companions for future readings or donated books. In this spirit of sharing, each departure lounge becomes a place of meeting, inspiration and generosity.
In 2023, they joined forces with 1 Letter 1 Smile: writing a letter to isolated people. This new edition seems to reinforce the airport’s commitment to bringing the magic of the holidays to everyone, travelers or not.
