Valère Corréard gives us a good plan every day to give us back our purchasing power, today we save 150 euros by reading free books.

Every year works fall into what is called the public domain. In , 70 years after the death of an author, this has been the case since a European directive of 1993. In practice, this means that a book which has fallen into the public domain can of course still be sold , but it can also be reproduced freely and without financial compensation, and obviously the Internet has radically changed the situation.

Classic works in the public domain

Classic or that were written a while ago. For example, in 2024, several works will enter the public domain:

If I tell you, for example, about a hired Breton servant whose adventures we could follow in a comic strip, you will of course think of Bécassine (who is our cousin)! This work is now in the public domain, which allowed me to see the plates of Bécassine en caravan again in color!

Colette Yver has also entered the public domain. She is a writer recognized for her anti-feminist works “in which emancipated female characters encounter a number of misfortunes in their lives outside the home”.

But you also have free reading the great classics of literatureor poetry, press articles…Victor Hugo, Alphonse Daudet, Anne-Marie du Bocage or even Marguerite Audoux…everything is online, free.

Access these works legally

There are several sites. The reference is that of the BNF (national library of France): French. By going there you will enter a world of extraordinary knowledge. We can salute the work carried out to open doors to books. You can enter by period, alphabetical order, themes, and you will find books but also videos, advertisements, press articles… (gallica.bnf.fr)

Otherwise, the Finnish site Altramenta is also very good, it also publishes manuscripts of contemporary authors which are not edited.

There you go, you now know how to cultivate yourself, discover, read, learn through literary works that have fallen into the public domain, resulting in 150 euros in savings without forcing, if reading on screen suits you…

I remind you, if you also have a good budget plan, a question, remark…Send me an email [email protected].
