In partnership with the bookstore Des Livres et Délices and the associations Les Amis du Patrimoine and A fond les mots, the media library will welcome the author Michel Manadé Roig on Friday November 15 at 6 p.m. He returns to Cazères to present his 3rd book, “they came from Aragon” published by Le Lys Bleu, the story of his family of refugees from the village of Calaceite province of Terruel. The grandfather Juan Bautista Roig, a peasant and last Republican mayor, had sensed the danger of part of the army while he was a soldier in the Moroccan Rif. The deterioration of the economic and social situation, despite the hope aroused by the proclamation of the Republic, will lead the country into political chaos triggering the Franco coup d'état in July 1936, at the same time when the Popular Olympics were to take place. of Barcelona, ​​experienced by a group of Cazerians for their first paid leave!

After 33 months of civil war and exile to , the Roig family, taking refuge near Longages, settled permanently in Cazères in 1945.

If the book presents the journey of the Retirada and the trying period of the camps in France and Austria (Mauthausen), it does not forget the moments of solidarity and sympathy of the Cazerians for this courageous family dented by history, decisive moments for integration into their new country.
