Cultural places in the wake of the 4th Rodez Artist's Book Biennale

The event scheduled for November 9 and 10, at the village hall, is echoed in various cultural places in the city.

It is one of the rare Ruthenian events, if not the only one, which brings in its wake a whole series of cultural places in the city. It is indeed an understatement to say that the 4th Artist's Book Biennial, proposed by the in Folio association, is shining. Annotiau Gallery, Réplique gallery, La Menuiserie as well as the city's three museums, Soulages, Fenaille and Denys-Puech offer events in resonance with this biennial, developing the theme of paper. Like a persistent nod to the origin of this meeting. It was born at the time within the Friends of the Soulages Museum where we launched “Art is not only in museums, it is also in books!” The media library of Rodez, that of Olemps , the house of My region, but also the white workshop in Villefranche-de-Rouergue or the Médiathèque sud Aveyron (Mésa) are also involved.

Paper as a theme

The guest of honor of this biennial is the Moulin de Brousses et Villaret which, for the occasion, will allow the artist Michel Julliard to create a work on a large sheet of paper taken from the mill. One of the events of these two days, where the achievements of Aveyron schoolchildren, middle schoolers and high school students will also be exhibited.

For this fourth biennial, around Caroline Gil and Patrice Lemoux, Art in Folio quickly filled the Rodez village hall which, on November 9 and 10, will welcome nearly 36 exhibitors. Each delivering achievements that are absolutely worth the detour! “We had to put people on the waiting list,” we say within the association, where we make no secret of wanting to make this biennial a premier event in !

Fenaille, Denys-Puech, Soulages, the galleries…

In any case, this fourth Biennale seems to be doing what it takes! The Fenaille museum has taken care to exceptionally present two books of hours, in a way the first artist's books; the Soulages museum hosts the conference on a subject very little developed in Aveyron, paper mills, “a forgotten history” (October 31); the Denys-Puech museum will pay a tribute not to be missed to René Durand, with “The writings of the collection”; throughout the month of November, the Annotiau gallery is exhibiting three artists on the theme “Dans ses petits papiers”, a South Korean, a Catalan and an Aveyron native; the Carpentry invites you to discover the incredible work of Rémi Ducellier on wallpapers (opening on November 7); the Galerie Réplique offers an exhibition of photos by Jean Cazelles, entitled “My silver moires”…

Art in Folio even invites the public to participate concretely in this biennial by participating in the decoration of one of the four wishing trees, which are located at the town hall, the MJC and the neighborhood centers of Saint-Eloi and Gourgan. All these wishes, written on a piece of paper of course, will be entrusted to the Aveyron artist Gérard Marty who will produce an artist's book which will join the collection of the media library.

A beautiful collective work, this 4th Artist's Book Biennial!

René Durand, “the writings of the collection”

It’s an event within an event. On November 6, the winter exhibition will be unveiled at the Denys-Puech museum. An exhibition which will pay tribute to the Ruthenian René Durand, entitled “The writings of the collection”. The Denys-Puech Museum of Fine Arts actually keeps a large part of René Duran's personal collection on deposit. This set includes plastic and literary works, manuscripts, books and
numerous notebooks. Self-taught with a varied career, René Duran was interested in writing, visual arts, rock, Occitan tradition, sport, literature
and much more! This exhibition brings together original creations from the last thirty years. An exhibition that invites you to dive into the moving universe of this
cultural agitator and total artist. It will be on view until March 10.
