Doctor, father of a family, resistance fighter, first deputy mayor, founder of the free commune in the upper town… Gaston Fardeau, whose street bears his name in Le Blanc, was all of this at the same time. Unfortunately he died within a few days of acute pneumonia, at the age of 44 on October 15, 1945, he left behind a grieving wife and three children, Michel, born in 1929, Jean-Pierre, born in 1933 and Marie- Claire in 1937. Today, everyone is still there, alive and well! “When my uncle Jean-Pierre entrusted me with all the documents he had about his father to create a book, I accepted this mission with pleasure and seriousness because in our family the memory of Gaston is a memory of great admiration and great misfortune”, indicates in his foreword Jean-Marie, son of Michel Fardeau.

This work entitled Tribute to Doctor Gaston Fardeauabundantly illustrated with photos, personal and unpublished writings, and speeches, is above all a family testimony to the rich and short life of a generous and committed ancestor, whether with his patients, in then at Le Blanc, as a resistance fighter during the Second World War, in the life of the city but also with his family.

The reading is pleasant and documented. We will learn among other things that Doctor Gaston Fardeau was prefect of the Free Commune of Ville Haute, “not a salon prefect, but a prefect, who, thanks to the dynamism of the festival committee, tried to restore to the feast of the Good Saints the splendor of past years”, he liked to emphasize, a certain 1is September 1945. There are therefore a thousand and one reasons to discover this book available from its author.
